RECOMMENDATION:
Authorize the Board Chair to sign Professional Services Agreement with Angels Camp  Veterinary Hospital to provide veterinary care and services for the Animal Services Department  during the period March 14, 2023 through January 31, 2026 in an amount not to exceed  $100,000 per year.

background
DISCUSSION/SUMMARY:
This is a proposed three-year (March 14, 2023 - January 31, 2026) Professional Services  Agreement (PSA) with Angels Camp Veterinary Hospital. Under the PSA, Angels Camp  Veterinary Hospital would provide state-mandated veterinary care services for Calaveras Animal  Services, such as spay and neuter services, routine veterinary care and services, emergency  services needed for euthanasia of irremediably injured animals, emergency veterinary services  at the Angels Camp Veterinary Hospital facility, and provision of professional assistance and  consultation for cruelty/neglect investigations.

FINANCING:
Funding for state-mandated veterinary care of animals comes primarily from the General Fund.  The funds for veterinary services would be expended from 10100480-5271 Professional and  Specialized Services. Due to the unanticipated need for emergency veterinary services the  department may experience an increased need for additional funding for the FY 22/23 budget.

ALTERNATIVES:
The Board could opt to not authorize the Chair to sign the contract, which would require Animal  Services to seek another provider for the state-mandated services.
